We’re hiring a Policy Coordinator!
Overview
Bridges to Hope is a food aid centre located at 37 Cookstown Road, St. John’s. Serving an average of 1400 total individuals per month, we are dedicated to providing low-barrier emergency food assistance to individuals and families in the Metro region.
As Policy Coordinator, you will be responsible for overseeing implementation of Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence at Bridges to Hope. These national standards are designed as a baseline set of policies and practices to which the food banking network holds itself accountable and benchmarks future performance improvements. They reflect the food banking network’s commitment to continually enhancing our collective capabilities to relieve hunger today and prevent hunger tomorrow. There are 6 areas of focus: Governance & Administration, People Management, Financial & Legal, Client Service & Care, Public Engagement & Fundraising, and Food Operations & Food Safety.
Responsibilities
The Policy Coordinator will:
Review Food Banks Canada’s Standards of Excellence and cross-reference with the organization’s existing policies to identify potential modifications
Draft new or updated operational policies and procedures;
Update the organization’s Policies and Procedures Manual as needed;
Identify equipment and other purchases required for compliance with the Standards and present related cost estimates;
Assess current operational processes/procedures and determine how to implement new practices in an efficient manner;
Demonstrate new and updated practices related to food operations and food safety to staff and volunteers;
Track and present monthly progress reports; and
Prepare and present a final report detailing the work undertaken, including all new and updated documentation, to the Board of Directors.
Key Skills and Qualifications
Post-Secondary education in social sciences, business administration, or human resource management (equivalent experience considered)
Experience working in the non-profit sector and/or with diverse populations
Experience in policy analysis and writing
Strong understanding of food insecurity and compliance obligations for non-profit organizations
Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Satisfactory Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check
Assets
Food safety training
Working knowledge of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador’s Food Premises Regulations
Terms of Employment
This is an externally-funded temporary contract position for 25 weeks beginning on January 27, 2025. The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 per hour (plus 4% vacation pay) for 35 hours per week.
