Overview

‍Bridges to Hope is a food aid centre located at 37 Cookstown Road, St. John’s. Our mission is to provide dignified and accessible assistance to our neighbours experiencing food insecurity. Serving an average of 1,500 total individuals per month, we are dedicated to providing low-barrier emergency food assistance to individuals and families in the Metro region.

‍This position will be responsible for reception, administrative tasks, and bookkeeping support. The ideal candidate for this position is highly organized and adaptable, and is motivated by contributing to a community-focused mission. They bring strong administrative and bookkeeping skills, with the ability to manage a wide range of responsibilities with accuracy and attention to detail. They demonstrate sound judgment, initiative, and the ability to prioritize competing demands, often working independently while supporting a small, collaborative team. They communicate with professionalism, empathy, and respect, and are comfortable interacting with a diverse range of community members.

Responsibilities

  • ‍Ensures the completion of daily operational tasks such as data entry, responding to phone calls, greeting visitors, receiving donations and managing correspondence

  • ‍Ensures accurate record keeping, filing, recording of leave, response to correspondence

  • Issues receipts, posts invoices and revenue and assists in employee payroll

  • Completes bank deposits and assists with bank account reconciliation, allocating donations and expenses to the proper categories in the General Ledger

  • Helps maintain a safe and welcoming environment for all visitors

  • Assists with special events and supports fundraising and public relations activities as needed

  • ‍Other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • ‍Post-secondary education or demonstrated experience in business or office administration

  • ‍Minimum of 2 years working in an office environment

  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite

  • ‍Valid driver’s license

  • ‍Knowledge of Sage 50 accounting software considered an asset

  • ‍Experience working in the not-for-profit sector or with vulnerable populations considered an asset

Candidate Eligibility‍ ‍

  • Criminal Record Screening and Vulnerable Sector Check to be provided upon offer of hiring

Working Conditions

  • ‍This is an in-person role at our main office, 37 Cookstown Road

  • ‍Part-time at 25 hours per week, flexible within standard hours of operation (8:30-4:30)

  • ‍Compensation to be discussed
