Overview

Bridges to Hope is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information. Personal information is collected, used, maintained, and disclosed in compliance with federal and provincial privacy legislation, including the Ten Privacy Principles of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA):

1. Accountability: Bridges to Hope is responsible for all personal information in our possession, and we keep this information in the strictest confidence.

2. Identifying Purposes: We obtain and record personal information only for specific purposes that we disclose to you at the time of collection.

3. Consent: We collect, use, or disclose your personal information with permission provided by you or designated members of your household.

4. Limiting Collection: Information we collect from you is used strictly for the purposes identified at the time of collection.

5. Limiting Use, Disclosure, and Retention: We will keep your personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes for which it has been obtained. Bridges to Hope has guidelines and procedures for the destruction of personal information once its original purposes have been fulfilled.

6. Accuracy: We make our best efforts to ensure that all personal information is accurate, complete, and up to date. You may seek a correction at any time for information you find to be incomplete or incorrect.

7. Safeguards: Access to your personal information is protected by safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of that information and the method of collection.

8. Openness: Bridges to Hope will readily make available to you information about our policies and procedures, in a form that is simple and easy to understand.

9. Individual Access: Bridges to Hope will allow you access to your personal information.

10. Challenging Compliance: You may make a privacy complaint to Bridges to Hope at any time by contacting us as listed at the bottom of this page. All complaints are investigated. Should a complaint be justified, Bridges to Hope will take all appropriate steps required to rectify the situation.

Food Bank Intake

Bridges to Hope uses Client Management Software called Link2Feed to collect and store client data. Bridges to Hope collects and uses your personal information to manage programs, assess your eligibility for support, understand the needs of those they serve and improve services. This personal information may be shared with other local food banks, our provincial food banking association (Community Food Sharing Association), Food Banks Canada, and Link2Feed to provide more complete support, conduct research, eliminate duplication of efforts, or fulfil commitments to those who fund programs.

Online Registration

Bridges to Hope’s website offers links to many different online tools to facilitate program and event registrations. These include but are not limited to CanadaHelps, Google Forms, and Microsoft Forms.

When you register online for a program or event, we ask for a variety of personal information. We use this information for matters related to your registration and participation, and to follow up about the program or event. While we try our best to select trustworthy and reputable third-party tools, these services are not controlled or maintained by Bridges to Hope, and we cannot guarantee the privacy or security of any information you provide to these services. We recommend you review the privacy policy for each service before disclosing personal or sensitive information.

E-Newsletters

We use MailChimp to host and manage our e-newsletter service. When you subscribe to one of our e-newsletters, we ask for your name and a valid e-mail address. This is the minimum amount of information we need to fulfill your subscription request. MailChimp's Privacy Statement (https://www.intuit.com/privacy/statement/) outlines what specific information is gathered on their site and how that information is used.

All newsletters have an option that allows you to cancel or modify your subscription preferences at any time. "Unsubscribe" requests are fulfilled promptly, and no further communications will be sent to you. We WILL NOT make any personal information about our subscribers available to any third party except as required by law. Bridges to Hope does not sell, rent, trade or otherwise share its mailing or donor lists.

Online Groups, Networks, and Blogs

Bridges to Hope’s website offers links to many different online tools to facilitate communication with our members, adherents, volunteers, and interest groups. These range from simple blogs or groups to more sophisticated networks on Facebook, YouTube, etc.

While we try our best to select trustworthy and reputable third-party tools, these services are not controlled or maintained by Bridges to Hope, and we cannot guarantee the privacy or security of any information you provide to these services. We recommend you review the privacy policy for each service before disclosing personal or sensitive information.

Online Donations

CanadaHelps hosts our online donation services. When you make an online donation, we ask for personal information including your name; e-mail and mailing addresses; telephone number; credit card number, type, and expiration date. We use this information only for matters related to your online donation. We will maintain your credit card information only for a period reasonably necessary to ensure payment has been received. Log Files, Tracking, and Cookies

Bridges to Hope collects and uses the information contained within an automatically generated log of all traffic on our website. JavaScript, cookies, and other tracking codes are included in all pages on our websites for use with Google Analytics. The information collected includes IP addresses, browser types, device type, pages viewed, city/province/country of the visitor, network used, how often you visit our site, and cookie information. We use this information in an aggregate form to calculate overall site traffic patterns, to analyze user trends, and to administer the website. Individual traffic patterns will not be disclosed to any third party except as required by law.

Changes to This Privacy Statement

Bridges to Hope may from time to time change this Privacy Statement as new services are added, or old ones changed. Please review this statement regularly for updates.

NOTE: Personal information relating to volunteers, job applicants, employees and clients are subject to similar protocols.
