About the Organization

Bridges to Hope is a registered charity in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador. Our mission is to provide dignified and accessible assistance to our neighbours experiencing food insecurity. In 2025, Bridges to Hope’s food bank served 5,541 unique individuals across nearly 18,000 total visits.

Bridges to Hope provides low-barrier, non-judgmental assistance to any person experiencing food insecurity and residing in the St. John’s Metro region. We do not impose eligibility restrictions based on neighbourhood, family composition, or religious affiliation. While there are representatives from the local United and Presbyterian churches on our Board of Directors, our programs and services are entirely non-religious and are delivered inclusively to all members of the community.

About the Board

Bridges to Hope’s Board of Directors is responsible for the governance, financial oversight, and strategic direction of Bridges to Hope. Board members may also serve on the following committees:

  • Fund Development

  • Governance

  • Finance

  • Human Resources

  • Facilities

The Board comprises 7 representatives from the local United and Presbyterian churches, and 7 community representatives.

About the Opportunity

We are currently seeking 3 community representatives to join our Board of Directors. We welcome applicants with a range of skills and lived experiences, particularly in areas such as fundraising, advocacy, law, non-profit governance, and risk management.

  • Board meetings occur on a monthly basis, usually on Mondays at 5:30 PM for 1.5 hours. Meetings are held both in person in St. John’s and virtually. In addition to board meetings, members should expect to dedicate 3-5 hours per month to committee work.

  • The successful candidates will be appointed from the date of election. In accordance with our bylaws, Directors are appointed for a 3-year term, and may serve no more than two consecutive 3-year terms.

  • Directors must be a minimum of 19 years of age and must reside in Newfoundland and Labrador. Successful applicants must undergo a Criminal Record Screening.

  • This is a volunteer position.
